Our Mission: Together We Change Lives, And That Includes Yours.

About the Role

As a Mobile Regional Inspector based in North Queensland (with flexibility to be located anywhere between Rockhampton to Cairns), you’ll play a vital frontline role protecting animals across Central and North Queensland, while upholding Queensland’s animal welfare legislation. This role is hands-on and varied, combining investigation, enforcement, education and community engagement.

You’ll manage animal welfare cases end-to-end - from initial investigation through to prosecution where required, working independently across your region while staying closely connected to the broader Inspectorate team. It’s a role that requires sound judgement, resilience and professionalism, particularly when navigating complex, sensitive or high-pressure situations.

Please note: This role requires regular travel between Cairns and Gladstone, with the ability to remain in a specific location for up to 2 to 4 weeks at a time, depending on operational and coverage requirements. This role will give you plenty of opportunities to get out on the road, experience different regions and support teams where you’re most needed. However, if consistent travel or staying in one location for extended periods isn't possible, this role may not be the right fit for you.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a calm, capable and values-driven professional who can balance empathy with authority. You’re comfortable making decisions, communicating clearly with a wide range of people, and standing your ground when required - always guided by legislation, evidence and animal welfare outcomes. You work well independently, take ownership of your cases, and bring strong written and verbal communication skills to everything you do.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Investigate animal welfare complaints and incidents.
  • Conduct animal rescues and seize animals in accordance with the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001.
  • Interview witnesses and/or suspects to determine whether offences have occurred.
  • Collect and manage physical, documentary, photographic, video and scientific evidence.
  • Transport seized animals to appropriate places of care for treatment or temporary housing.
  • Prepare and submit briefs of evidence where applicable.
  • Serve and register summons and other legal documentation.
  • Attend court and present evidence at mentions, hearings and other legal proceedings.
  • Educate animal owners on responsible pet ownership and basic animal care.
  • Build positive, productive relationships with community members and government stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Investigative experience.
  • Excellent communication, mediation and negotiation skills.
  • Strong written, computer and documentation skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional, respectful customer service.
  • Practical animal handling, health care and welfare experience.
  • A current, valid Open Queensland Driver Licence.
  • A Queensland Firearms Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Certificate IV in Investigations, or the ability to obtain.
  • Restricted Drug Authority, or the ability to obtain.
  • The ability to travel to Brisbane and other Queensland locations for training or operational support.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexible working environment designed to work around you.
  • Access to paid parental leave, flexible working arrangements, companion animal leave and study leave.
